Your visitors

The Insights page shows how many people visit your site, which pages they read and where they come from, counted without scripts or cookies.

Where the numbers come from

Every Firetend site has an Insights page (in the site's menu). It counts a page view each time your live site serves a page to a person. The counting happens on Firetend's servers as the page is sent, so your site carries no analytics script and sets no cookies, and visitors have nothing to accept. Bots, search engine crawlers and link previews are left out, and so are your own previews and the editor.

The numbers start the moment your site is published. Nothing is counted on preview addresses.

What you see

  • Page views and visitors for the last 7 or 30 days, this month against last, or the last 12 months, with a chart per day or per month.
  • Pages: which pages were read, most read first.
  • Where visits come from: search engines, AI answer engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot, Gemini), social networks, visits with no referrer (someone typing your address, a link from an email or a chat), and other sites, with the sites that sent the most visitors.
  • Countries and devices (phone, tablet, desktop).
  • Forms: how many messages your forms received this month and last, by form.

Days are counted in UTC, so a late-evening visit in Singapore lands on the next day.

How visitors are counted

There's no cookie, so a visitor is one browser on one day. Someone who opens three pages counts as three page views and one visitor; the same person coming back tomorrow counts as a visitor again. The count comes from a scrambled daily fingerprint that can't be turned back into an address and means nothing across days; Firetend stores no IP addresses for it. Google Analytics, which uses cookies to recognise a returning browser, will show fewer visitors than this page over a month and more over a day.

What it means for your privacy page

Nothing new: your site still sets no cookies and shares nothing with advertising networks. Firetend's own privacy policy describes the counting; your site's privacy page can say that the site counts page views without cookies.

If you also use Google Analytics

The Insights page and Google Analytics count differently, and Google Analytics only counts visitors who accept the consent banner, so the two won't match. Use Insights for the quick answer, and Google Analytics when you need its reports.
