Search, maps, videos and booking
Your site's built-in search, and maps, videos and booking calendars that keep pages fast because they load only when a visitor clicks.
Site search
Every site has a search page at /search/. It's built into your site each time you publish, so it's instant, works offline once loaded and contacts no one. It searches every page, article and entry, and skips menus, footers and forms. To put search in your menu, add a link to /search/ under Settings → General → Navigation; to search from a box elsewhere, link to /search/?q= followed by the words.
Maps, videos and booking calendars
Add them as sections in the editor (hover between sections and choose +), or ask the agent:
- Map: an address or place name. Visitors see the address and a Show map button, plus an Open in Google Maps link.
- Video: a YouTube or Vimeo link and a title. Visitors see the title and a Play button; YouTube videos use its privacy-enhanced player.
- Embed: a booking calendar (Calendly, Acuity, SimplyBook and the like), a third-party form or another widget, from the embed address the provider gives you.
Why they load on click
Maps, video players and booking widgets are some of the heaviest things on a website, and they set the provider's cookies as soon as they load. On a Firetend site they show a small placeholder until a visitor asks for them, so your pages stay fast and cookie-free for everyone else. The placeholder says where the content comes from, and each one has a link that opens it on the provider's own site.
Don't paste embed codes (an <iframe> or a <script>) into a page: use these sections instead. The agents follow the same rule.
