Connect your own domain

Put your site on your own address, like www.yourbusiness.com, with one DNS record. HTTPS is set up for you.

Every site starts on a free address, your-name.firetend.app. You can connect a domain you own at any time; the free address keeps working.

1. Add the domain

Open your site, go to Settings → Domains and choose Add a domain. Enter the address you want, for example www.yourbusiness.com.

2. Add one DNS record

Firetend shows the record to add where you manage DNS for the domain (your domain registrar, or Cloudflare if you use it):

TypeNameTarget
CNAMEwww (the part before your domain)sites.firetend.app
  • On Cloudflare, set the record to DNS only (the grey cloud, not the orange one).
  • Remove any older record with the same name first, for example an A record pointing to your previous host.

3. Wait for it to go live

The domain shows its progress: Waiting for DNS, then Setting up HTTPS, then live. It usually takes a few minutes, occasionally up to an hour while DNS changes spread. HTTPS certificates are issued and renewed for you.

The www address or the root domain?

We recommend www.yourbusiness.com, because every DNS provider supports a CNAME there. A root domain (yourbusiness.com, with no www) needs a DNS provider that supports CNAME flattening, such as Cloudflare.

Moving from another website

If the domain shows your old site today, your new site takes over as soon as the record changes. Before you switch, check that your important old pages have a matching page on the new site, so links and search results keep working. If you're unsure, contact us at support@firetend.com before switching.
